It Worked For Me! Wednesday - Halloween edition

Since today is Wednesday and it's a holiday, I am doing a special post.  There are not one, not two, but three ideas from Pinterest that I used to decorate our home this year!

First, we used this idea for the front door.

Then, for the front windows, we did this.
Miracle decorated the windows on the left.  I did the middle.  Angelica decorated the windows on the right.

Finally, we continued the monster theme in the bathroom.

Happy Halloween!

Taken just for fun.  Where but the heartland of America can you see statues made from hay bales?  In addition to the teddy bear, there was a pumpkin and a spider.

It Worked For Me! Wednesday - graham crackers

This is another guest post by my daughter Miracle.  Her aptitude and love for cooking is a blessing in our lives. During the summer, we were planning a camping trip so I looked on Pinterest for recipes and Miracle lovingly made graham crackers so Angelica could enjoy s'mores. These turned out terrific.  Miracle also adapted the recipe to make cereal, but that recipe isn't posted yet.

Graham Crackers

These Graham Crackers taste amazing! They are time consuming, but they are well worth it. One batch makes quite a few cookies, so you will have more than enough. The directions call for a food processor. I have never made it without one, but you could try .

Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups + 2 tbsp flour
1 cup lightly packed brown sugar
1 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp salt
7 tbsp butter cut into 1 inch cubes
1/3 cup honey
5 tbsp full-fat milk
2 tbsp vanilla

Directions:
Combine the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt in a food processor fitted with a steel blade. Mix on low to incorporate. Add the hard butter, and mix until it resembles a coarse meal.
In a small bowl, mix together the honey, milk, and vanilla. Add to the flour mixture, and pulse on and off until the mixture comes together.

Lay out a large piece of plastic wrap, and dust it with flour. Transfer the dough onto it,  and pat into a rectangle. Wrap it, then chill until firm. About 2 hours, or overnight.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Divide the dough in half, and return half to the refrigerator. Sift an even layer of flour onto your work surface, and roll out the dough. ( The dough is very sticky, and I have to add a lot of flour. Don't be afraid of adding to much.) Roll it out to be about 1/8 inch thick, and a rectangle shape. Cut the dough into about two inch squares. ( It doesn't have to be perfect. The important thing is to make them all approximately the same size and shape.) Place the squares on a baking sheet, and chill in the freezer for about 15-20 minutes, or the fridge for about 40-45 minutes.  Put the squares from the freezer into the oven, and bake for 15-20 minutes. The crackers will seem soft, but they will harden. While it is cooling, roll out the other dough and cut into squares. Take the crackers off of the baking sheet, and repeat the process with the other dough.

Homecoming 2012

The girls went to their first dance on Saturday.  They had a lot of fun.

Miracle's dress was originally sleeveless with a long tie in the back.  She came up with the idea to bring the ties up over her shoulders and sew snaps to hold it in place.  I think the finished product is more elegant than the original.  She also glittered a pair of tennis shoes.  They turned out quite well.

Angelica's dress was originally floor length.  I cut it and hemmed it for her.

Sisters.

Whoa!! What Happened?!?

Where did I disappear to?  What has been going on?

Truthfully, there is no good answer.

I didn't mean to stop posting.... it just fell by the wayside.  We have been busy, to be sure.

I have done several fun things with the girls that I hope to post about soon.

I have done several projects from pinterest, so there should be some Wednesday posts in the coming weeks.

I have been listening to God and growing in my faith.

I have also been sick more than not for the last several weeks.

I made a new header for the blog last night.  What do you think of it?

Hopefully I am back to stay, but truthfully living life and enjoying the moment is more important to me than recording those things here.  I hope you are all well.  God bless!
